Overview
Prominent ears are one of the few aesthetic concerns that reliably affect children socially, and one of the few procedures where operating early is genuinely justified. Ear cartilage reaches near-adult size by around age five or six, so surgery from that point does not interfere with growth.
Earlobe repair is a small operation with a disproportionate impact — split, stretched or torn lobes from heavy jewellery or gauges are corrected under local anaesthetic in under an hour, and most patients can re-pierce after a few months.
