What are Skin Lesions?
Skin lesions are quite common, with most people experiencing some at some point in their lives. They vary in size, shape, and color, and can appear anywhere on the body. Some skin lesions, like birthmarks and moles, are present from birth, while others, such as cysts, warts, and lipomas, develop later. Factors contributing to skin lesions include genetics and environmental influences, such as bacterial infections.
While many skin lesions are harmless and don't need removal, they can sometimes be a cosmetic concern. If a skin lesion causes pain, discomfort, or shows potentially cancerous signs, removal is appropriate. It's advisable to consult your GP if you notice a suspicious lump. Most benign skin lesions are managed privately, as the NHS typically does not address non-cancerous lumps and bumps.
