A mini breast lift, also referred to as a "doughnut mastopexy" or "periareolar mastopexy," is ideal for women experiencing mild degrees of breast sagging or drooping. This technique focuses on enhancing the breast's shape and position, often with a less invasive approach. Whether a mini breast lift is performed on its own or combined with breast augmentation depends on your specific treatment goals. It can sometimes be challenging to determine the suitability of using breast implants alone or in combination with a periareolar mastopexy to achieve the desired breast shape. For women with more pronounced sagging, a full breast lift using the lollipop or anchor technique is generally the most appropriate option.
For women with mild breast ptosis, a mini breast lift can deliver excellent results without the more noticeable scarring associated with more extensive breast lift procedures. The doughnut breast lift, or periareolar mastopexy, is designed to elevate the nipple to a more aesthetically pleasing position, creating a more youthful appearance. This technique can also reduce small amounts of excess tissue in the lower portion of the breast. It can be performed on its own or in combination with breast implant surgery. However, there is a limit to the amount of lift that can be achieved with a doughnut mastopexy. A periareolar mastopexy is often combined with breast implant surgery as part of a comprehensive procedure. Unlike a traditional breast lift, a doughnut mastopexy requires less extensive incisions. The incision for this technique is made around the circumference of the areola, with a second, larger circumferential incision placed around the initial one. The skin between these two incisions is then surgically removed, and the breast shape is enhanced as the incisions are closed with dissolvable stitches. In contrast to a full breast lift, the incisions do not extend down toward the inframammary crease, nor do they involve a horizontal incision across the lower part of the breast.
A mini breast lift involves an incision made around the areola, followed by a second, larger circular incision surrounding the first. The skin between these two circles is surgically removed, and in some cases, a small amount of breast tissue may also be excised. The incisions are then closed with dissolvable stitches, elevating the nipples to a higher position on the breast. To maintain the size of the areola and prevent it from enlarging over time, your surgeon will use a 'purse-string technique.'
